To fuflil its potential, Alexander Studies Online requires a developing community of participants.  The following table offers an overview of  the diverse ways in which people can engage with ASO.

Alexander pupils

Alexander teacher trainees

  • Using for research and study purposes relevant to their current training process
  • During final terms, usage as for Alexander teachers
  • Participation as Contributors where appropriate

Alexander teachers

  • Locating specialist material on AT relevant to teaching practice or private study - deepening understanding of the AT and pedagogical issues
  • Discovering opportunities to participate in projects
  • Locating materials relevant to CPD
  • Participating as Contributors where appropriate

Contributors: lay people, professional researchers, Alexander Teachers, trainee teachers with demonstrable ability to contribute

  • Submitting materials for publication on the website
  • Posting comments against materials
  • Contributing to forum discussions (subject to moderation and peer review as appropriate)

Editorial Advisory Board Members

  • Providing peer reviews of contributed material
  • Offering guidance on editorial policy
  • Offering suggestions for new bibliography enries and link library entries and/or adding them directly

Editorial Assistants

  • Adding new content as directed by Editorial Board Members

Editorial Board Members

  • Overseeing the entire ASO initiative
  • Referring materials and issues to Editorial Advisory Board Members
  • Reporting back to project sponsors
  • Making final decisions on submitted materials
  • Moderating comments
  • Drafting, reviewing and approving static content on the website

Managing Editor

  • Ensuring implementation of Editorial Board decisions
  • Chairing Editorial Board and exercising a casting vote
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of policies and procedures and reporting to the Editorial Board
  • Formally reporting back to Project Sponsors

Indexers

  • Adding and amending Universal Alexander Technique Index entries

Project Sponsors*

  • Supporting and refining the ASO vision
  • Providing financial and other material support to ASO

Representatives on Representative Body

  • Providing the formal link between ASO and external bodies such as national Alexander Technique societies from around the world.

Website administrator

  • Creating and de-activating new user accounts

Website manager

  • Liaising with developer
  • Soliciting and collating feedback on website features
  • Liaising with the Editorial Board concerning future developments
  • Implementing new features and modifying existing ones where technically competent to do so, including menu items, views of data, fields on content types etc

Website developer

  • Providing technical relevant to influence design decisions
  • Setting up backup and other server-related routine processes
  • Managing the hosting environment
  • Installing and updaing code modules
  • Implementing new features outside the technical competence of the website manager including bespoke coding where necessary.

*Currently the sole Project Sponsor is the Research Group of the UK-based Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique; but we look forward to developing a broader base of sponsors from other Alexander Technique organisations.
