Biography:

After a beginning profession in Australia as a civil and public health engineer, I graduated from Patrick Macdonald’s Alexander Technique teacher training program in 1978. In parallel with these AT studies in London, I also trained as a ballroom dancing teacher up to Fellowship level with Gwenethe Walshe. I have taught both AT and dancing since I returned to Sydney in 1980. I was the foundation Chair of AUSTAT from 1983 to 1986, and worked on various AT teacher education programs in Sydney. In 1996 I began my own AUSTAT-recognised program, the Sydney Alexander School.

During the eleven years I directed the School, I completed a Masters and a Doctorate in Education at the University of Technology Sydney. My dissertation examined the education of AT teachers. Since 2008 I have been working part-time as a researcher and occasional lecturer in the UTS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, mostly in the areas of teacher education and professional practice. I am also an Accredited Editor and a member of the John Dewey Society.
